GO WESTERN WITH A STAGECOACH

Did you know that once upon a time, stagecoaches were the primary mode of travel for park visitors? Back then, it would take many days to travel the dusty park roads by stagecoach. Today, Yellowstone visitors can relive the stagecoach experience on board replica Tally-Ho stagecoaches, which travel an old stagecoach road through the sage-covered meadow of Pleasant Valley.

This adventure is offered from the Roosevelt Lodge corral in the Mammoth Springs area of the park in the north, and is approximately 45 minutes long. Stagecoach tours are offered from June 6th (2026) through September 7th at 9:45 a.m. and 1 p.m., and June 5th through August 5th at 2:15 p.m. The cost is $22 for adults and $11 for children aged 3 to 11; under 3 ride free. YELLOWSTONE BUS TOURS

Another early way of discovering the wonders of Yellowstone was in the park’s yellow touring buses, which remain a staple. And they’re as big a hit now as they were when they first rolled onto Yellowstone’s byways in the 1920s. These distinctive antique yellow vehicles have retractable canvas roofs and panoramic windows, making them perfect for sightseeing.

Tours depart from various locations and are operated by the park's official concessionaire, Yellowstone National Park Lodges, as well as third-party companies. The historic Yellow Bus can take you to the heart of Yellowstone's greatest geyser region or wildlife-rich areas like Hayden Valley. And one of the buses can even be rented for private tours.

Tours are offered in the morning, at sunset, twilight and everything in between. Yellow Bus tours are available from May 2nd through October 11th, 2026. For more information, visit yellowstoneparklodges.com.

GUIDED WILDLIFE, SCENIC AND PHOTOGRAPHY TOURS

Several Jackson Hole-based tour companies offer full- and multi-day wildlife, photography, hiking, biking, and/or sightseeing excursions into Yellowstone — as well as Grand Teton National Park — from May through October.

Most wildlife and photography tour operators offer complimentary pick-up and drop-off at your hotel located in the town of Jackson or out in Teton Village in a comfortable 4x4 vehicle, where everyone is guaranteed a window seat. Experienced naturalists who guide these interpretive tours are men and women with bachelor's — and in some cases, master's — degrees in biology, zoology, wildlife conservation and environmental sciences, among others.

Snowmobile Yellowstone

SNOWMOBILE THROUGH THE PARK IN WINTER

In winter, when you might want to take a day off from the slopes, an all-day Yellowstone tour via snowmobile or snowcoach is a special treat. Yellowstone limits how many snowmobiles can be in the park each day — no more than 500 — so unlike summer, you’ll often have moments while zipping along the snow-covered roads when it feels like you’re the only one out there in the pristine wilderness.

With Scenic Safaris’ snowmobile tours, you’ll get to see the park as very few do — with no crowds and no cars. From the moment your Scenic Safaris guide picks you up in a luxury van at your hotel between 6 and 7 a.m., to the moment he or she drops you back at your door around 6 p.m., the chances of seeing some of the amazing wildlife that call this part of the world home increase. As you wind your way up to Old Faithful on your snowmobile, you’ll find there is nothing quite like passing bison burrowing their mighty heads into the deep snow searching for food and then watching their snow-covered faces emerge victorious.

The tour is an all-day, 12-hour round-trip adventure and the early morning and early evening hours present some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities while you make your way to and from the national park.

Hopping into a snowcoach is certainly not something you get to do every day, nor is climbing aboard one to explore Yellowstone National Park during your visit to Jackson Hole. The snowcoach provides a warmer, more social and relaxing alternative to snowmobiling. Scenic Safaris and Teton Science Schools Wildlife Expeditions are the only two outfitters making snowcoach journeys available to you from Jackson Hole.

BABY, YOU CAN DRIVE YOUR CAR

Of course, one can always adventure into Yellowstone in the comfort of your own vehicle, with or without a plan on where to go (although we know that Old Faithful will be on your list!). You may, however, want to check out Jackson Hole Traveler's self-guided one-day sightseeing itinerary via car.

Visitors entering Yellowstone National Park's South Entrance will be traveling through Grand Teton National Park first; separate entrance fees are charged for each park. Entrance fees are $35 for one to seven days; an annual pass is $70. Note: Starting in 2026, nonresidents age 16 and older must pay a $100 nonresident fee in addition to the regular entrance fee, unless they have the Nonresident Annual Pass. For more information on entry fees — and when fee-free days are for 2026 — visit nps.gov/yell.

THE LAST WORD

Yellowstone is fascinating, fun, family-friendly and fabulous. The photo ops and the indelible memories you take away from your visit will be cherished forever, no matter how you choose to travel through this gem of a national park.
