Togwotee Pass
Topo Map: Togwotee Pass
Directions/Parking: Drive nine miles past Togwotee Mountain Lodge and pull out in plowed parking area on the right.
Trail description: One option is to ski southwest from the top of the pass, following the divide until you reach timber and an obvious unplowed road. Follow this road south and west to Squaw Basin, but in passing through some open areas the road becomes indistinct. Another option is to ski southeast along the base of Two Ocean Mountain. You can then turn right and loop through some rolling terrain before returning to the parking area. A third option involves crossing the road from the parking area and skiing northwest at the base of Breccia Cliffs.
Avalanche risk: Low to moderate
Brooks Lake Lodge
Topo Maps: Togwotee Pass, Lava Mtn.
Directions/Parking: After you reach the summit of the pass, drive eight miles down the east side on Highway 287. Park in the plowed turnout on the left just past Falls campground.
Trail Description: A 10-mile round trip winds through lodgepole forests to reach Brooks Lake Lodge, a restored historic lodge. Lunch is available there seven days a week, which makes for a nice outing with a reward halfway through. Reservations are required and lunches are limited to 30 guests. Reservations may be made up to a week ahead. Overnight accommodation also are available. Some spectacular formations called the pinnacles are seen on this ski tour. The ski itself is on snowmobile and skier packed trails, but watch for snowmobiles.
Avalanche risk: Low
Black Rock Meadows
Topo Maps: Angle Mountain, Togwotee Pass
Directions/Parking: Angle Mountain and Togwotee Pass Directions/Parking: Five miles east of Togwotee Mountain Lodge park in another plowed parking area on the south or left side of the Highway 287.
Trail description: Once again, numerous options exist for skiing here. One is to ski south through meadows and some forested slopes. There are numerous snowmobiles trails here. This area is often windy so be careful of cornices forming on the breaks in the slope above the creek. Another option is to cross the highway and ski north toward Angle Mountain or through the rolling hills at the base of Breccia Cliffs. There are also snowmobile trails on this side of the highway.
Avalanche risk: Low to moderate
Rosie’s Ridge
Topo Map: Togwotee Pass
Directions/Parking: From Jackson drive to Moran as in the preceding ski tours, and then drive east six miles on Highway 287 to Fourmile Meadows Road. Park in the plowed area on the left across from Fourmile Picnic Area.
Trail description: Ski west up the unplowed road as far as you like. After eight miles this road ends at the west end of the ridge and offers beautiful views of the Tetons and Buffalo Valley. In the Togwotee area, this is an option where you’ll likely see fewer snowmobiles.
Avalanche risk: Low
