From Rafts to Rowing Frames and Sea-Doos to sleeping bags.   Overview The whitewater section of the Snake, known as the Canyon, offers eight miles of ripples and rapids. The Snake’s large volume of water equates to a fun and exciting day of adventure. Several rafting companies operate in the canyon and offer trips of varying length, including meals and/or overnight camping. Even President Clinton and the first family floated through the Canyon - in 1995 - on their summer holiday in Jackson Hole. If getting wet is not your pleasure, try a float on the calmer upper Snake. Scenic trips cover all stretches of this section and offer awe-inspiring views, from the launch area at Pacific Creek to the top of the Snake River Canyon 28 river miles downstream. On many stretches, you are likely to see bald eagles and osprey, and occasionally elk, deer, moose and and black bear. For the best wildlife viewing, book a trip at the beginning or end of the day. Be sure to bring binoculars and a jacket. The water is cold and if the skies are cloudy, you'll appreciate the extra layers.
